The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Sit down with your partner and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like conventional biological terror, but beneath Together lies a deep meditation about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Millie and Tim move from the urban environment to the rural area for professional reasons. A commonly used story element, sure, but that’s largely where the tropes cease. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence starts to affect the pair. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The entire film is a methodically building horror experience, interspersing moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his support system. He is terrified of the notion of completely losing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he refrains from painting one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that come with long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Conversely, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could act as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
